Photographs of astronomical observatories around the world. Modern telescopes can be found in remote locations with clean air and little or no light pollution. A high altitude location is preferred to have mininal disturbance from the atmosferic turbulence and moisture content. And of course a clear sky most of the year is also necessary. The best sites for astronomy can be found on the Canary islands, Hawaii and in the Atacama desert in Chile.
